Getting started with the Microsoft Lists - MSA Preview
Track and organize information for work and "for life"
Hi Peer,
Have you heard? You can try Microsoft Lists with your Microsoft account (MSA). It's in preview now and ready for you to test across numerous scenarios - for your small business and individual use.
This article is meant to be a teaser to try it out yourself. I’ve list’ed a few scenarios below to get some ideas flowing, a few things you can try and test during preview, and embedded a new video tour of signing up, getting in, and trying it all out.
Review the preview launch blog “Try Microsoft Lists with your Microsoft account (Preview)“
Start the preview (web login): lists.live.com
Microsoft Lists is a smart information tracking app you can customize to get organized and stay connected. And now, you can track what matters most - for work (Microsoft 365 business plans) and life (this MSA preview). Maybe you’ll create a list for your book club, track gifts for a wedding, keep a contacts list for your volunteer group, manage job applications, and, and, and… there are so many things you can track and manage. You customize the what, how and who of it all.
During preview, here’s a few things to try (and in-product, let us know what you like, don’t life and any feature suggestions):
Go to the new, top-level URL: lists.live.com
Create a list - use a ready-made template or start blank
Create your first list item (note the new, centered form to view/edit)
Share your list with a friend or family member
Favorite a list or two on the Lists home page
Try out all the different column types and filtering
Use and create views (Grid, Gallery, and Calendar) - now with a new tabbed experience
Add column and row formatting
And there’s a lot more you can do.
I put together a quick video tour to help kickstart both how to get into the preview and to showcase what you can try once you sign up and sign in (at no cost):
Share the above video with friends and family, or out to your social channels: https://youtu.be/8SfjAyi5fdk
And for fun, I created a new list called: “LISTSDLE” - inspired by the WORDLE craze (check out LISTDLE using this view-only share link I created from my MSA). Here’s a screenshot of what it looks like - essentially, I used a bunch of Choice columns programmed in a way where I could make a nice visual:
Final thoughts…
A list is a list is a list. Lists sees a lot of use and adoption for businesses who use Microsoft 365 today - especially people that have been using SharePoint lists when it was a lowercase “l”.
What lists will you create to track what matters most to you?
The good news, for any list you create, for work or life, you’re using the same SharePoint platform - now with the ability to sign into SharePoint with a personal MSA. You’ve never been able to do that, and we hope you like what you can accomplish once you’re in.
Cheers, Mark “Lists for life” Kashman
